A growing number of businesses are, quite rightfully, becoming more conscious of how their actions affect the planet – this includes their investment in new technology. They want to reduce waste, cut carbon emissions, and make better use of the IT equipment they already have.
One simple and cost-effective way to do this is by using remanufactured IT equipment – and it’s becoming more popular for good reason.
Our Commitment to Environmental Sustainability
One of DTE’s key vendor partners is Cisco, and we’re proud to maintain their Environmental Sustainability Certification, which shows we’re serious about helping our customers reduce their environmental impact in practical, reliable ways.
We’re also proud to have joined the United Nations Global Compact, reinforcing our commitment to aligning our operations and strategies with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. It’s another step in our mission to drive real sustainability across the IT lifecycle.

Don’t Believe the Myths
Some people still have the wrong idea about remanufactured IT. They think it’s second-rate, unreliable, or not properly supported – but that’s simply not true. Here’s what you need to know:
❌ Myth: It’s old and damaged.
✅ Truth: Cisco remanufactured equipment is fully restored and tested by Cisco themselves. It looks and works like new.
❌ Myth: The software might not be legal or up to date.
✅ Truth: All remanufactured equipment comes with valid software licences from Cisco.
❌ Myth: You don’t get proper support or warranties.
✅ Truth: Cisco remanufactured products come with the same warranty as brand-new equipment and can be covered by Cisco SMARTnet support if required.
Remanufactured equipment can sometimes be immediately available in stock too – which is ideal if the equivalent brand new kit is on a longer stock lead which puts your project timeframes at risk.
Advice From an Expert
Paul Hitchings, Senior Account Manager at DTE, brings over 15 years of expertise in helping leading global businesses navigate their IT procurement. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he saw first-hand the vital role remanufactured IT played in keeping operations running and supply chains resilient.
“When the pandemic hit, it was sometimes difficult to get new hardware because of chip shortages and delays. Remanufactured equipment helped our clients keep going. It was available, reliable, and saved them time and money. Many of our clients still purchase remanufactured equipment now, with it part of their long-term purchasing strategy.”

Save Money, Time and Meet Your ESG Goals
Buying remanufactured IT is a win all around. You receive the same quality and support as new equipment, often at a lower price, with faster delivery – and you’re making a greener choice at the same time.
Takeback and Reuse Programme
DTE are strong advocates for the Cisco’s Takeback and Reuse Programme, which allows Cisco customers to return hardware that has reached end-of-use, at no cost.
All returned equipment has its data cleared to maintain data security, and Cisco sends over 99% of returned products to reuse or recycling, which helps our customers address their sustainability goals and responsibly dispose of their old equipment.
There can also be commercial benefits to customers when they are returning old equipment as part of a refresh and replacement project, in the form of discounts on the new kit purchased.
