Q&A with Dan Piedot, Warehouse & Operations Manager at Dynamic Technologies Europe

In the first instalment of our Q&A series with industry experts, we sat down with Dan Piedot, Warehouse and Operations Manager at Dynamic Technologies Europe (DTE), to discuss best practices, innovation, and what it really takes to keep warehouse operations running smoothly.

Dan, can you tell us about your role at DTE and what your key responsibilities are as Warehouse and Operations Manager?

“As Warehouse and Operations Manager at DTE, my role is to ensure that all materials, equipment, and inventory move efficiently in and out of our facility to support the company’s critical infrastructure and operational needs. This involves overseeing the full scope of daily warehouse operations, including processing inbound shipments, booking in stock, organising and putting items away, shipping goods out, and maintaining accurate inventory and stock control through our warehouse management system.

I am also responsible for managing and motivating the warehouse team. I ensure that every team member is properly trained and operates in a safe, productive environment. A key part of my role involves close coordination with our procurement and project teams to ensure that materials are not only available but also delivered on time – particularly for large-scale infrastructure projects or time-sensitive emergency response jobs.

Maintaining inventory accuracy is a critical focus, and I use our warehouse management system (WMS) to monitor stock levels and conduct regular audits. Beyond daily operations, I am committed to driving continuous improvement across the warehouse. This includes exploring and implementing new technologies, refining workflows, and optimising storage solutions to enhance both efficiency and performance”.

DTE supports high-profile worldwide clients. How do you ensure the warehouse operation keeps pace with such demanding expectations?

“Supporting clients with worldwide presence requires consistently high standards. We meet those expectations through precision, consistency, and responsiveness.

We rely on WMS for real-time inventory and order tracking, which helps us stay organised and proactive. Clear, standardised processes and open communication with internal teams ensure that we deliver quickly, accurately, and without disruption”.

Technology is always evolving. How do you adapt warehouse practices to keep up with the changing nature of IT hardware and infrastructure solutions?

“It’s essential to stay current in a fast-moving tech environment. We constantly adapt by staying informed on the latest IT hardware and infrastructure trends. Regular training for the team ensures we’re equipped to handle new types of equipment or procedures.

By staying agile and informed, we’re able to implement improvements that boost productivity, reduce downtime, and keep our warehouse future ready”.

DTE places a strong focus on scalability and reliability. How do you maintain efficiency and accuracy when managing tailored or large-scale client projects?

“Scalability and reliability are at the heart of what we do, particularly when supporting major clients.

We maintain efficiency by sticking to standardised processes and using WMS to manage real-time inventory and orders. We scale labour and resources based on project demands and ensure the team is fully aligned with expectations.

Strong communication, robust quality checks, and a culture of continuous improvement help us deliver consistent, high-quality results – no matter the size or complexity of the project”.

What are the key metrics or indicators you use to track warehouse performance and ensure your team is operating at its best?

“We monitor several key performance indicators, including order accuracy, on-time shipping and delivery and inventory turnover.

These metrics help us identify areas for improvement, ensure efficient operations, and maintain a high-performing, motivated team”.

Sustainability is an important part of DTE’s ethos. Are there any initiatives you’ve implemented in the warehouse to support this mission?

“Absolutely. Sustainability is a major focus for us, and I’ve introduced several initiatives in the warehouse to support our environmental goals. One of the key changes has been the use of WMS for digital inventory reporting. This shift not only enhances accuracy but also significantly reduces paper waste across our operations.

We’ve also taken steps to optimise our packaging processes to minimise excess materials and reduce overall waste. In addition, we actively recycle materials such as cardboard and other packaging components, ensuring that as much as possible is diverted from landfill. These actions collectively help us lower our environmental footprint while maintaining the high levels of efficiency and accountability our operations demand”.

What advice would you give to other warehouse professionals working in fast-paced, tech-driven environments like DTE?

“Adaptability is key. You’ve got to stay organised, communicate clearly, and be ready for change at a moment’s notice. Plan ahead, stay efficient, and always be open to improving processes. Fast-paced environments thrive on proactive teams that are flexible and forward-thinking”.

And finally – what’s something people might be surprised to learn about the behind-the-scenes work that goes into supporting DTE’s major infrastructure projects?

“Most people don’t realise how much planning and precision goes on behind the scenes. It’s not just about moving boxes.

Logistics is the backbone of our infrastructure projects. Our warehouse operates to extremely tight schedules with zero room for error – a single mislabelled parcel or pallet could delay a full installation.

Getting the right kit, to the right place, at the right time is a high-stakes operation – and that’s where our team excels”.
