The Challenge
Skanska UK wanted to introduce EV charging for employees and visitors as part of its wider low-carbon approach.
The existing electricity supply presented a challenge, with insufficient capacity to power 67 chargepoints simultaneously without significant infrastructure upgrades.
The busy multi-storey car park also needed to remain operational throughout the project, while the solution needed to accommodate future expansion and provide Skanska with control over charger access and usage.
The Solution
A scalable commercial EV charging installation was delivered using a Array Load Balancing system to distribute available power across the charging infrastructure.
The project included:
🔹 67 EV chargepoints installed
🔹 Infrastructure prepared for a further 176 parking bays
🔹 Substation upgraded to support future expansion
🔹 Load balancing to manage available electrical capacity
🔹 Centralised monitoring and access control
🔹 Custom electricity tariff capabilities
The load balancing technology enabled up to three times more chargepoints to be supported using the available power, helping avoid more extensive power supply upgrades.
