The Electrical Engineer will lead the surveying, assessment, planning, and commissioning of EV charging installations across customer sites in the UK and EU. This is a hands-on, technical role requiring detailed evaluation of existing electrical infrastructure, accurate capture of site data, and the production of clear, high-quality documentation to support EV charger upgrades, expansions, and commissioning. Acting as DTE’s on-site technical representative, you will serve as the subject-matter authority for all EV-related electrical surveys and commissioning activities, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be required to:

  • Visit sites with existing EV charger installations
  • Study and fully understand the electrical system from HV transformer through to the EV charger, including:
    • HV/LV transformers
    • Main LV switchboards
    • Sub LV panels
    • Distribution boards (DBs)
    • Assess system capacity, protection, and configuration for EV charging infrastructure
  • Record and document:
    • Electrical ratings and system characteristics
    • Equipment data plates
    • Protective devices and feeder details
    • Catalogue, structure, and securely store all captured site information
  • Create clear, basic site electrical schematics showing:
    • Power flow from transformer to EV chargers
    • Key equipment, ratings, and interconnection
    • Carry out fault-finding and troubleshooting on existing EV charging and associated electrical systems
  • Support EV charger commissioning activities, including verification of electrical supply, protection, and system operation
  • Provide technical input to DTE project teams to support planning and future works
  • Liaise professionally with clients, site representatives, and third-party contractors where required

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Strong electrical background with proven experience in:
    • Commercial and industrial power distribution systems
    • EV charging infrastructure (AC and DC preferred)
    • Ability to confidently read, interpret, and produce electrical drawings and schematics
    • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience working with:
    • HV/LV distribution environments (awareness level for HV, competent on LV)
    • Load assessments and system capacity evaluation
  • Electrically qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • Methodical, detail-focused approach to data capture and documentation
  • Comfortable working independently on customer sites
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Extremely health & safety focused
  • Willing and able to travel extensively across the UK and EU Desirable (but Not Essential)
  • Experience commissioning EV chargers
  • Understanding of DNO interfaces and supply limitations
  • Familiarity with EV standards (e.g. BS 7671 Section 722, IET Code of Practice)
  • SSSTS or similar safety qualification
