When you’re hosting conferences, awards dinners and large corporate events, guests expect fast, seamless Wi-Fi. For Hilton at MK Dons Stadium, meeting those expectations had become increasingly difficult.

During busy events, with up to 800 people connected at the same time, the ballroom’s wireless network struggled to keep up. Guests experienced slow speeds and dropped connections, while staff also faced unreliable connectivity when they needed it most.

DTE was brought in to redesign the wireless network and deliver a solution built for high-density environments.

The challenge

The existing Wi-Fi infrastructure wasn’t designed to support hundreds of simultaneous users.
As guest numbers increased, devices competed for bandwidth, connected to the wrong access points and remained attached even when a better connection was available nearby. Overlapping wireless signals created interference, resulting in congestion, poor roaming and inconsistent performance.
The effect was much like a crowded train station where everyone piles into one carriage while others remain almost empty. The overcrowded carriage slows everyone down, despite there being plenty of space elsewhere.
For a premium hospitality venue, this meant frustrated guests, disrupted events and unnecessary pressure on staff.

The solution

Following a detailed Wi-Fi survey, DTE redesigned the ballroom’s wireless network to maximise both coverage and capacity.
Our engineers deployed a new generation of high-performance, multi-radio access points capable of supporting hundreds of concurrent devices. The wireless design was carefully optimised to minimise interference, reduce signal overlap and ensure devices always connected to the most appropriate access point.
The new infrastructure also introduced support for the latest 6 GHz Wi-Fi spectrum, providing additional wireless channels and significantly improving overall network performance during high-density events.
The result is a network designed specifically for demanding hospitality environments, where reliability is every bit as important as speed.

The results

The transformation was immediate.
Instead of competing for limited wireless capacity, guests are now intelligently distributed across the network, delivering fast, stable connections throughout the ballroom, even when the venue is at full capacity.
