Client background

Everton Football Club’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium is a purpose-built, 52,769-seat venue designed to become one of the most advanced football stadiums in Europe.

Replacing the historic Goodison Park, the new stadium was created to enhance the matchday experience while generating revenue throughout the year through concerts, conferences, hospitality and large-scale public events.

To achieve these ambitions, the club required a stadium WiFi solution capable of supporting tens of thousands of fans alongside the operational systems that keep a modern stadium running.

The challenge

Modern football stadiums rely on far more than public guest Wi-Fi.

Everton needed a network capable of supporting thousands of simultaneous users while connecting every operational system across the venue.

The new infrastructure needed to:

🔹 Deliver reliable high-density Wi-Fi for over 52,000 spectators
🔹 Support digital ticketing and mobile entry
🔹 Enable contactless food, drink and retail purchases
🔹 Connect point-of-sale terminals, CCTV and security systems
🔹 Support broadcasters, media teams and emergency services
🔹 Provide flexible connectivity for concerts, conferences and other events
🔹 Give stadium operators real-time visibility across the venue
🔹 Scale easily for future digital services

The goal was to create a stadium where connectivity enhanced every aspect of the fan journey while improving operational efficiency behind the scenes.

Through the wireless network, we have the ability to see, in real time, what is going on in every corner of the stadium.

The solution

Everton deployed a wireless-first infrastructure designed specifically for high-capacity sporting venues.

The network delivers seamless coverage throughout seating areas, hospitality suites, concourses, fan zones and outdoor event spaces, while centralised cloud management enables rapid provisioning, monitoring and optimisation.

The solution included:

🔹 High-density Wi-Fi 6E deployment
🔹 More than 750 under-seat access points
🔹 Indoor and outdoor wireless coverage
🔹 Centralised cloud-based network management
🔹 Real-time monitoring and analytics
🔹 Dynamic network configuration for different event types
🔹 Guest Wi-Fi portal with fast onboarding
🔹 Secure segmentation for fans, staff and third-party users

The network was designed to support not only football matches but concerts, conferences and large public events throughout the year.

We’ve spent a great deal of time considering how different users will interact with the stadium. We know this experience will change over time. We want to capture the data to help us understand these changes.

The result

The completed wireless infrastructure provides fast, reliable connectivity throughout the venue while giving Everton the flexibility to continually evolve the fan experience.

High-density fan connectivity

The stadium supports thousands of simultaneous users during busy matchdays, with more than 300,000 concurrent network connections recorded during recent events.

Faster, frictionless matchdays

Reliable Wi-Fi supports digital ticketing, cashless retail, loyalty programmes and rapid social media sharing throughout the stadium.

Better operational visibility

Real-time monitoring enables stadium teams to understand crowd movement, reduce waiting times and allocate staff more effectively.

Flexible multi-use venue

The same network infrastructure supports football, concerts, conferences and outdoor entertainment events without requiring major reconfiguration.

Stronger security

Traffic is segmented to separate fans, operational systems, broadcasters, emergency services and third-party suppliers while maintaining secure access throughout the venue.

Future-ready infrastructure

Everton reports more than 300,000 concurrent network connections, around 5,000 connected endpoints, and a scalable platform supporting both matchday operations and year-round commercial events.
